This position is responsible to provide assistance in network installation,
maintenance, and problem resolution; interfaces with vendor support service
groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded
system performance. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots networks and
associated components. Assists in Local Area and Wide Area Network
activities. Researches, tests, evaluates and recommends data communication
hardware and software.
B.A./B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Programming or related field or 3
to 4 years practical experience in network installation, maintenance, and
problem resolutions or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to work in a team
environment. Industry certification such as Novell (CNA, CNE), Cisco
(CCNA), or working toward certification.
Working knowledge of complex and varied computer network designs,
including implementation and support, as well as of wiring standards,
topologies and specifications. Expertise in telecommunications technologies
(ISDN, Frame Relay, T1, T3, SONET, ATM, etc.). A solid background in
the following is required: Cisco, Novell, Microsoft, UNIX, Bay Networks,
Token Ring, Ethernet, Token Ring and Ethernet switches, hubs, maus,
routers, bridges, fiber optics, modems, terminal servers, multiplexers,
Windows NT, Win98, Win95, DOS, Sniffer, OpenView, and CiscoWorks
2000. Practical experience with CAD software for network design and
layout. Solid level of understanding of IEEE standards (800.2, 802.5, etc.).
